As we think about the start of the Lenten season, I'd like to share today's passages from the Moravian Daily Texts 2012:

You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.  Psalm 116:8

Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus.  But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!"  Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him.
Matthew 14:29-31

In the last view days, I have been encouraging my friends and family to donate $1 per day during Lent toward the Annie B Mission's current project.  Upon reading today's Daily Texts, I felt a nudge of support from God's spirit.  The gospel passage references a story that teaches the need to perservere in good faith and courage.  The story takes place on the Sea of Galilee - one of the locations that Ashley, Diana, Matt and I spent time during our trip to Israel and Palestine.  It was on this same trip that we learned of Star Mountain Rehabilitation Center and were touched by the work being done for Palestinian children with needs.  Since then, the Annie B Mission has developed a project to raise $36,000 in funds to provide a speech therapist for these children for three years. Through speech therapy, these children will not only gain the ability to talk, but will gain a voice, which is so much than just words.  The amount of money to be raised is daunting; however, we must continue to perservere in good faith and courage, just as Peter learned in Galilee.  I remember looking across the waters of the Sea of Galilee and being so deeply moved because Jesus himself had been in that very place, but in truth, Jesus is present here with us now and he is asking us to walk towards him.  Are you willing to step out of the boat?
